Career
After a period of time in acute career, Barbara developed a specialization
in burn care and worked at several national research burn centers. Returning
to work after an injury in 1983 (see Barbara’s Story) Barbara’s
interest shifted to chronic pain and movement dysfunction. Using surface electromyography
(sEMG) Barbara is recognized as an international authority in the field of
sEMG, movement dysfunction and myofascial pain. Recent publications and new
course material reflect her latest research in this field.

“It is not the direction we choose for
our life that determines its fulfillment, but the choices we make about our
life in the direction it takes us that ultimately defines the success of our
journey.” – Barbara
“I strongly feel
that Barbara Headley’s program is finding answers to questions that
have plagued me during my entire career. I find my best judges are my patients.
After learning from Barb for one week, I spent the next week talking and listening
to my patients. I found the information she covered about how bodies function
and what happens when there is pathology and they are not functioning is exactly
what my patients have been trying to tell me and their physicians for years.”
Suzanne McDonald, PT Warren MI
Barbara’s research on the underlying causes of movement dysfunction
is paying off for patients. “Barb Headley was able to determine which
muscles were causing the chronic, debilitating pain I lived with as a result
of a car accident four years ago…I have received over 60 physical therapy
sessions with other physical therapists that did not produce the results that
Ms. Headley has achieved in eight sessions. I’m convinced.” Brenda
